Michael Nayo, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairman of Nkwanta Community Secondary Technical, has made a heartfelt appeal on behalf of the suspended headmaster of Nkwanta Senior High School, Solomon Sarpong Bagmae, seeking food support for WASSCE candidates.

Nayo explained that before the candidates were asked to return to Nkwanta SHS, the PTA chairmen of Nkwanta Community School, Nkwanta SHS, and Kyabobo Girls collectively agreed to collect a fee of GH¢300 per candidate to provide meals.

Following swift government intervention, food supplies have since been delivered, and all fees collected from candidates have been fully refunded.

He also urged the government to pardon the PTA for not consulting the relevant authorities prior to making this decision.

Recent unrest in the area has displaced residents, destroyed property, and led to the tragic loss of a student’s life. As a result, WASSCE candidates from Nkwanta Senior High School, Kyabobo Girls, and Nkwanta Community Secondary Technical were directed to camp at Nkwanta SHS to ensure the safety of both students and educators.

Although the school had adequate food stocks and received government supplies, the headmaster requested additional food support due to the increased number of candidates accommodated in the boarding facilities.

However, the Ghana Education Service (GES), through the Oti Regional Education Directorate, suspended the headmaster for failing to obtain prior approval before discussing the issue publicly with the media.

Mr. Nayo emphasized that the decision to levy the candidates was a collective agreement among the PTAs and has appealed to the authorities to reconsider the suspension of the headmaster, who was seeking public support for feeding the students.
