The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu, on Monday 5th June 2023, participated in the ‘National Launch of the Persons with Disability (PWDs) Enterprise Support Programme’ under the Ghana Economic Transformation Project.
The programme aligns with Government’s goal of providing training, capacity upgrades, mentoring, funding and access to markets for Enterprises owned by persons with disability.
The initiative will enable PWD Enterprise to scale their business and transition into the next stage of growth thereby improving their ability to increase sales and create sustainable jobs.
Speaking at the Launch, Madam Lariba Abudu said as a nation, we must work together to ensure that persons with disabilities have equal access to opportunities and resources. This, she said includes: providing accessible infrastructure, promoting inclusive education, and creating employment opportunities that are tailored to their needs.
However, she noted with disappointment that despite progress made in recent years, people with disabilities still face significant challenges in society.
“They often struggle to access basic social amenities that most of us take for granted, and are mostly excluded from social, cultural, and economic activities” she stressed.
Madam Lariba Abudu called on all to create a society that values and celebrates the contributions of all its members, especially PWDs.
