The residents of Assin Donkorkrom in the Assin North district are expressing their deep concern and frustration over the deplorable condition of their Junior High School (JHS) buildings.
According to them, the poor state of the buildings has forced teachers to send students home whenever it rains, as the structures are not safe for them to occupy. The residents are living in fear, worried that the buildings might collapse and harm their children, who are already afraid to learn inside the classrooms due to the hazardous conditions.
The residents are appealing to the government and their Member of Parliament, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, to intervene immediately to prevent any disaster.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Assin Donkorkrom, Nana Donkor, has expressed his disappointment with the previous government for neglecting the community’s educational needs for so long and fears that the current government might follow suit.
He urged the authorities to take urgent action to repair or replace the buildings, which were established in 1996 and have become very old and dilapidated. The situation is particularly dire for JHS students, who are finding it difficult to continue their education under such conditions.
