The Supreme Court of Ghana has recently published its written judgement regarding the dual citizenship case involving James Gyakye Quayson, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North.
The court had previously ruled on May 17, instructing Parliament to remove Mr. Gyakye Quayson’s name from all official records. Although the decision was unanimous, the written judgement was scheduled to be released at a later date.
The delay in releasing the judgement was met with disapproval by the Minority in Parliament. Members of the Appointments Committee within the Minority threatened to withhold their decision on the appointment of Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo as the nominated Chief Justice until the written judgement became available.
