The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has disclosed that Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has had some challenges with gas supply recently, which is why some parts of the country have been experiencing power disruptions.

According to him, Nigeria Gas, which supplies Ghana with gas, had some problems, resulting in load shedding in some parts of the country.

“We pick gas from Nigeria Gas, and they’ve been having some challenges, so it affected the gas flow through the power plants in Ghana.

“We had some massive load pressure, so we had to take steps to shed some load immediately because we didn’t have access to some liquid fuels so that is what led to the outages that happened two days ago and the outages that happened.

He explained that they were assured that the challenge would be fixed, but it was not done in time and apologized to the public, promising that it will not happen again.

“We were promised it would have been fixed for the pressure to come up but as time went on, it wasn’t coming back on, so we just had to stick with the low pressures and deal with it as possible.

“We should have actually put out a statement so I will take the opportunity to say a big sorry to the good people of Ghana.

Also, he assured that plans are advanced to ensure that such occurrences do not happen.

“Moving forward we should be okay, we’ve taken steps to ensure that we have alternative fuels for this period until Nigeria Gas sorts out its issues.”
