The Ghana Police Service met with Democracy House organizers to address a planned demonstration, citing a court order that prohibits assembly at Revolution Square due to public safety concerns.
The organizers acknowledged the court order and proposed alternative routes, including the 37 roundabout, Airport roundabout, Opeibea intersection Stanbic Heights, Christ the King and the Arko Adjei interchange.
However, the police deemed these locations unsuitable, as they are major intersections that could pose risks to public safety.
In response, the police suggested seven alternative locations: Police, therefore, suggested the following seven locations to them for consideration: the Cantonments Post Office-DVLA stretch, the VAG Association junction-MTN Head office on the Liberation Road, El Wak side park, Obra Spot, Kawkudi Park, Efua Sutherland Park, the frontage of the Trade Fair. The organizers rejected these options, leading to an impasse.
The police urged the organizers to reconsider their location choice to ensure public safety and warned against unlawful actions, including defying court orders, wielding weapons, attacking officials, and using motorbikes to create chaos.
The police assured the public that measures are in place to maintain law and order, emphasizing Ghana’s commitment to public safety and its reputation for stable democracy, as reflected in various governance indices.
