The Defence Ministry has airlifted 25-year-old Sandra Baafi Boateng to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for further medical treatment, months after she was injured in a stampede during a military recruitment exercise in Kumasi.

The transfer follows her prolonged critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she has been receiving treatment with no significant signs of recovery.

Twenty-five-year-old Sandra Baafi Boateng’s dream of becoming a soldier has remained unfulfilled since the November 12, 2025 stampede during a military recruitment exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Sandra was among five victims injured in the incident. Months later, she remains unconscious at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, with no clear signs of recovery.

On Friday, February 13, 2026, a delegation from the Ministry of Defence visited Sandra and her family at the hospital.

The delegation, led by Brigadier General Ben Gah, Principal Staff Officer at the Ministry of Defence, described her condition as critical.

““I am not a medical officer, but all I can say is that her condition is not good,” he said. “The fact that she has not been able to speak suggests that her condition is serious. We will brief the Acting Minister of Defence and determine the next course of action.”

Sandra’s mother, Marcy Boateng, says her daughter remains unaware of her surroundings.

“She has not spoken since the incident and does not respond to what is happening around her. At the moment, we are helpless we need help and the government has responded,” she said.

Two weeks after assessing her condition, the Ministry of Defence has airlifted Sandra from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where military medical specialists will continue her treatment.

The family, expressing gratitude for the government’s intervention, is calling on the public to support Sandra’s recovery through prayers.
