In its press release, the National Identification Authority (NIA) noted its readiness to ensure almost all citizens of the country have acquired their Ghana Card to intensify the digitization agenda.

In a statement signed by the Ag. Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA, Col. Peter Kwame Ghansah (Rtd), dated June 11, 2023, it was revealed that the National Identification Authority (NIA) has offered five additional premium registration centres to the existing ones effective Monday, June 12, 2023, indicating that the premium registration centres will offer first-time registration and issuance of a Ghana Card at a cost of Gh¢280.00 and a cost of Gh¢110 for replacement of lost, missing, or damaged cards and update of personal records that require the printing of a new card.

Reacting to the NIA’s release, the NPP communication team member in the Tano South Constituency, Mr. Joshua Asante, acknowledged the efforts of the National Identification Authority in ensuring the masses get the identification cards to streamline digital activities in the country.

He stated that the establishment of premium registration centres in a quest to get more people enrolled in the Ghana Card system is a genuine idea but pleaded with the authority to review the charges against the program, which he described as outrageous and will hinder the smooth running of the whole program.

Mr. Joshua Asante added that the National Identification Authority [NIA] during the initial stages of the program ensured mass and cluster registration of Ghana Cards for the people; hence, most citizens in the country obtained their cards, with only a few people without them as a result of some technical hitches and the continuous issuance of negative information about the program by sections of NDC party members and executives that, according to him, hindered the smooth running of the program.

He finally pleaded with the Leadership of the authority to ensure the effective running of the district offices to ensure the needy also get access to the Ghana card registration despite the creation of premium offices.
