The football match between Okwahu and Kwaebibirem United has been called off after the rampaging fans of both sides trooped to the pitch to cause mayhem at the Dawu stadium.
The spectators were cheering their various clubs, amidst a slight cloudy and smooth environment in the city of Dawu as players and officiating officials await to kick start the game.
Tensions were high as both teams look forward to take on opponent in a thrilling match to qualify for the next stage of the division two league.
The referee for the day, Emmanuel Agudavi Coffie blew his whistle to commence the game. The much anticipating fans continue to cheer their teams in a very high spirit.
For the first 20 minutes, the Kwaebibirem United were dominating the game, leaving no chances for the strikers of their opponent with a stunning performance.
The Okwahu United upped their game and began to have the upper hand over their opponent, Kwaebibirem united.
A live commentary from Gideon Ansah, a sports journalist with Republic Fm reported a goal for Okwahu United after a strike from Asare Frimpong slipped past the goalie for the Kwaebibirem United at the the 32nd minute, putting Okwahu United ahead of the game with a leading goal.
In the second half, the commentator recounted that how loose the referee became, forcing the supporters of the Okwahu United to throw stones at the second assistance referee. The second line referee got off the stadium, insisting that he would not continue the game.
In the 60th minute, referee Emmanuel Agudavi awarded a crucial and unqualify penalty for the Kwaebibirem United. Captain for the side, Antwi Bonnah subsequently converted the penalty, equalising to 1 -1 scoreline for both sides.
Supporters of the Okwahu United were unhappy with the the referee’s decision to award penalty to the Kwaebibirem united.
The game was halted temporarily to allow the referee and reconsider his decision.
Initial report also say as of the time of filing the story, reinforcement team of the Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the Ghana Police Service has arrived at the scene to calm the situation.
