Retired referee, Philip Nii Teye Lomotey, on Sunday, passed away during a football match at Ho Sports Stadium in the Volta Region of Ghana.
According to sources, the deceased collapsed whiles he was watching the finals of a Division Two middle league match between Home Stars FC and Inter Allies FC.
Reports say it took some fans in the stadium to try and save him after he collapsed, but their efforts could not save the situation.
He was however rushed to the hospital in a police vehicle and upon arrival, he was pronounced dead.
The deceased also worked as an instructor at the Ho Regional Police Training School and as the chairman of the Referees Association in the Ho District.
Meanwhile, his death has raised many concerns about the safety of players and fans at our match centers.
