The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has stated that her office was unaware of the demolition exercise conducted at the Kaajaano fishing community in the La Dadekotopon Municipality.

She was responding to the incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 11, 2024.

The demolition resulted in the displacement and distress of dozens of residents. According to the affected residents, bulldozers arrived in the area and demolished their structures. During a visit to the affected area on Sunday, April 12, the minister expressed concern over the development, emphasising that the operation was carried out without the knowledge of key authorities.

“I contacted those carrying out the exercise and appealed to them to halt the demolition. REGSEC was not informed of this operation, nor was the MCE, and even the Member of Parliament had no prior knowledge of it. We are here to ensure that a proper arrangement is made to provide accommodation for all of you,” she said.

The minister assured the displaced residents that efforts would be made to secure temporary accommodation and address their immediate needs.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Anyok Holdings, Clemence Gyato, who led the exercise, defended the action.

According to him, the demolition was long overdue.

He noted that the demolition followed years of engagement with occupants on the land and was necessary to reclaim encroached government property for planned coastal development.
