Reject Bawumia – Ashanti traders to NPP delegates

Some traders in the Ashanti Region have expressed strong opposition to the presidential ambitions of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, citing grievances they link to actions allegedly involving his wife, former Second Lady Samira Bawumia.

At a press conference led by Dr. Mohammed Issah Ababio, the traders said they are angry and dissatisfied, claiming that Mr. Oti Bonsu, a private individual, constructed 10 houses at East Legon which they allege were later demolished under circumstances they associate with Samira Bawumia.

According to the traders, the incident has created fear and uncertainty among business owners, particularly market traders in Kumasi.

The group warned that if Samira Bawumia were to become First Lady, similar actions could threaten traders’ properties across the country.

They stressed that their anger stems from what they described as the painful experience of seeing a person’s property allegedly destroyed.

The traders also referred to comments Samira Bawumia reportedly made during a tour in Kasoa, where she was quoted as saying that people should not do to others what they would not want done to them.

The traders said they found the statement ironic in light of the alleged demolition, which they claim caused significant hardship.

The traders announced that they plan to take further action at their business premises on January 31, 2026, the same date slated for the party’s presidential primaries.

They appealed directly to delegates, urging them not to vote for Dr. Bawumia.

Another trader who addressed the Angel news reporter Kesse , she said that even if the demolished houses were rebuilt for Mr. Oti Bonsu, they would still oppose Bawumia’s leadership.

The traders instead endorsed Kennedy Agyapong, describing him as a candidate who understands the struggles of ordinary people and is more likely to create jobs.

“We don’t need Bawumia; we need Kennedy Agyapong so that we can get jobs to do,” one trader said.
