The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to release documents relating to the sale of its shares in four hotels to Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel.
According to the majority leader, in order to put critics to shame, the Insurance Trust must explain to Ghanaians why it is selling its shares.
“Let me make this appeal to SSNIT, SSNIT must come out, make the documents available, and speak to it. I mean, they cannot be dodgy. This is not a political matter. I cannot come and speak to it politically, condemn it, or commend it. SSNIT must come out, and even not only this decision, [it must] look at all their investments that are failing and explain them to the public”, Afenyo-Markins stated.
In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on Monday, 27 May 2024, Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that, this explanation will enlighten the understanding of Ghanaians and other Labour unions.
“I am sure that TUC and other labour unions will understand if these things are explained and they will take away Bryan Acheampong as a person and understand that, let’s not look at the form but at the substance”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Effutu legislator cautioned the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, to desist from giving his party members a false sense of hope concerning the 7 December general elections.
“Recently, it has surfaced that the NDC, including their then General Secretary and now National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, knew that they had no evidence of any rigging or collusion between the EC and NPP, but went to court. They deceived their party members when they alleged they had enough evidence to prove their claim. This is what I am talking about that he should not be preparing their minds of victory and when it does not come, then they agitate” he said.
