The 2020 overall best farmer for Twifo Atti-morkwa district who is also the CEO of Show Boys Farms, Mr Isaac Agyiri has described the removal of the Agric subject from the Basic School curriculum as a woeful decision.
He made this statement during a Youth In Agric summit under the theme: Agriculture, The Solution to Unemployment.
The summit which saw students from Twifo Praso SHS, Hemang SHS and Morkwa SHS is aimed at encouraging youth in the district to venture into agriculture at an early age in their education.
According to him, those who exempted the subject from the Basic School curriculum has committed a serious crime and need to be called to explain why they did such a disservice to the nation.
Mr Agyiri explained that Agric is the engine of the Ghanaian economy and therefore has to be taught from the very basic level of our education to impart more knowledge to the children before they ascend to the SHS level and continue from there.
Mr Isaac Agyiri outlined that the removal of Agric subject from the Basic School curriculum has dwindled the youth interest in farming and this has contributed to a high unemployment rate.
He further added that the decision to scrap the subject from the Basic School curriculum has also increased the government’s expenditure on food importation.
