Remove all tollbooths to protect lives of Ghanaians – NRSA to Roads and Highways Ministry

The Acting Director of the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. David Adonteng has communicated to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to remove all tollbooths collection point across the country.

According to him, since the Ministry directed the cessation of the collection of road and bridge tolls at all locations nationwide, there was no need to have the tollbooths mounted on the highways which poses danger to drivers and commuters.

In an interview on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Monday, February 7, 2022, Mr. Adonteng said, the NRSA’s ultimate priority is to forestall safety of properties and secure the lives of Ghanaians on the highways, hence the directive to get the tollbooths off the roads.

“Since the ministry directed that road tolls be seized, there was no need to have the tollbooths on the roads.

As an authority, our prime policy is to safeguard the lives of Ghanaians and properties on our highways and we ought do this” he noted.

He also noted that the authority will henceforth, not jeopardize with the lives of Ghanaians and that, its has to be proactive to prevent any impending disaster from occurring.

Mr. David Adonteng indicated that a letter has been sent to the sector Minister stating all the necessary guidelines as to why the NRSA is calling for the removal of the tollbooths.
