The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, to stay away from chieftaincy and land-related disputes within the region.
According to the Asantehene, such issues fall strictly under his jurisdiction as the custodian of Asanteman’s traditional authority and not within the purview of the Ghana Police Service.
Speaking at the Manhyia Palace during a courtesy call by the new Commander on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the Asantehene advised that any chief who attempts to involve the police in land matters should be directed to the Palace for resolution.
“If you hear of any land dispute, bring it to my attention immediately. Do not allow yourself or your office to be drawn into these matters. They are traditional issues that must be settled here,” Otumfuo instructed.
He further urged DCOP Akoto to strengthen security operations in the region, particularly in the fight against theft, armed robbery, and other social vices threatening peace and order.
The outgoing Regional Commander, COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, who introduced his successor, expressed appreciation to His Majesty for his guidance and support during his tenure.
The delegation accompanying the outgoing commander included Deputy Regional Commander CP Francis Kouame Somian, Manhyia Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Frederick Hammond, and Ashanti Regional Police PRO DSP Godwin Ahianyo.
