Residents of Kportorgboe, a suburb of Anloga in the Volta Region, were plunged into mourning on Saturday following the brutal murder of a local restaurant owner.
The victim, Madam Korkow Dorcas Tettey, believed to be in her 60s, was the proprietor of “The Base,” a popular eatery renowned for its traditional dishes.
According to Mr. Edwin Vedzi, Assembly Member for the area, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, around 1:30 a.m. Preliminary reports indicate that Madam Dorcas was found lifeless in her room, with several personal belongings missing.
“The information I have gathered suggests that the woman may have been strangled to death during the robbery, as no visible physical injuries were identified on her body,” Mr. Vedzi said. The Anloga Police have launched an investigation, suspecting the case to be a robbery-homicide.
The news of Madam Dorcas’ death has sent shockwaves through the Kportorgboe community, leaving residents devastated and fearful. “She was a wonderful person, always willing to help others. Her death is a great loss to our community,” Mr. Vedzi lamented.
The Assembly Member noted that this was the first incident of its kind in the area, a fact that has heightened concerns about security. He appealed to the police to expedite their investigations and called on residents to remain calm while cooperating with law enforcement.
The deceased’s body has been transported to the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for examination and autopsy. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
