New Ghana Social Justice Forum has filed a petition with the French National Olympic and Sports Committee and the Africa Fan Zone event organisers to prevent Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie from performing.
The group claimed in a statement dated Thursday, July 25 that the well-known rapper is a misogynist, citing lyrics from his songs “Jennifer Lomotey” and “Try Me,” a diss track for Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson.
Meanwhile, Sakordie sang in his song “Jennifer Lomotey,” “Krobonii baa papa an ahweneɛ da ne sisi, Komfo Anokye de adwaman abɔ no dua,” which translates to “A beautiful Krobo lady with beads on her waist, she has been cursed with promiscuity by Komfo Anokye.”
The human rights organisation claims that his presence will desecrate the event because the majority of his music promotes misogyny, citing these reasons.
“Honoring Sarkodie with the Station Africa platform raises concerns, particularly for pregnant women. Sarkodie’s past actions, such as labelling actress Yvonne Nelson prostitute who belongs to the street in response to her memoir ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ are troubling,” excerpts of a statement released by the Group on July 25 said.
Award-winning rapper, Sarkodie is expected to perform on August 9 at the Africa Fan Zone or “Station Afrique” at Stade Robert Cesar in France during the ongoing Olympic games.
