A 78-year-old retired soldier, John Kwashie Ocloo has been jailed 12 years for defiling a 12-year-old girl at Teshie Nungua estate in Accra.

This was after the Gender-Based Violence Circuit Court at Nungua, presided over Dora G A Inkumsah Eshun, found Mr. Ocloo guilty.

In court, prosecution said about a month ago, John Kwashie Ocloo reportedly saw the victim who was on an errand and tried to lure her into his apartment but was not successful.

The prosecution continued that, the retired soldier successfully lured the victim into his room with GH₵2 when she was sent on another errand.

The court heard that Mr. Ocloo had sexual intercourse with the victim and repeated the act on three other occasions, using shea butter as a lubricant.

A few days later, the complainant, who is the auntie found out about the incident when the victim became sick.

The victim then narrated the incident to her aunt and subsequently reported the case to the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Nungua Police Station.

A medical report confirmed the victim had been sexually assaulted and the Nungua police arrested Kwashie Ocloo and charged him accordingly.

The court after hearing the case convicted him on his own plea of being guilty to the charge.

Justice Dora G A Inkumsah Eshun also ruled that Mr. Ocloo undergo counselling for a week while serving the jail term.
