An Accra High Court has ordered the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to return Cecilia Dapaah’s seized money to her within a period of seven days.
The OSP is currently investigating Madam Dapaah for corruption and corruption-related offences following the revelation that the former minister’s house helps some huge amount of money from her home.
On Friday, July 21, it was revealed that two house helps of the Minister were facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing an amount of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis at the former minister’s residence at Abelenkpe, Accra.
Both and other accomplices have been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis.
This revelation led the OSP to search the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah and discovered a substantial sum of US$590,000 and GHC2.730,000 at her Abelemkpe residence.
The OSP then froze Madam Cecilia Dapaah’s account pending investigation.
But a ruling from the Court presided over by Justice Edward indicated that the OSP acted wrongly in exercising its powers to conduct a search in the home of the former minister.
The court therefore overturned the action, directing the OSP to return the confiscated funds to her within 7 days beginning Thursday, August 31, 2023.
