The head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) in the Ahafo Region, Madam Indira Apronti, has shared some positive news about road safety in the area.

In an interview with Rejoice FM, Madam Indira mentioned a significant decrease in road accidents, which she attributed to the NRSA’s targeted initiatives.

One of the key factors contributing to this decline, as Madam Indira mentioned, is the establishment of an NRSA office in the Ahafo Region. This local presence has enabled more targeted interventions and proactive approaches to addressing road safety issues.

Madam Indira emphasised that the region previously experienced a 400% increase in road accidents.

However, this alarming trend has been reversed thanks to ongoing road safety campaigns and educational efforts.

Identifying common causes of road accidents, Madam Indira mentioned factors such as overspeeding, overloading, negligence on the road, and visibility issues.

Providing statistical data for context, Madam Indira shared that in 2023, the region recorded 30 road accidents, resulting in 4 knockdowns, 63 injuries, and 11 fatalities. Comparatively, the first quarter of 2024 saw the same number of accidents but with improved outcomes: 22 knockdowns, 51 injuries, and 9 fatalities.

Madam Indira stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility, involving not just drivers but also pedestrians, road users, and all stakeholders. She urged everyone to join forces in combating road accidents, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and adherence to safety protocols.
