Rock City Hotel with support from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has announced an upcoming national road safety awareness campaign aimed at reducing road accidents and promoting safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The campaign, themed “Drive Safe, Arrive Alive”, will officially launch on 29th November, 2024, at the New Station Bus Terminal, Nkawkaw.

This initiative comes in response to the high incidence of road accidents typically recorded during the Christmas season, a time marked by increased travel and celebrations across the country.

The collaboration between the NRSA and Rock City attests to the power of public-private collaboration in tackling national issues. While the NRSA brings its expertise and data-driven approach to road safety, Rock City will leverage its platform and resources to amplify the campaign’s reach.

In a brief press briefing, the Corporate Communications & CSR Manager of Rock City, Georgette Quarmyne highlighted that the campaign will include a robust media outreach designed to educate road users, on topics such as avoiding drunk driving, adhering to speed limits, and the importance of seatbelt use.

“We believe in going beyond hospitality to contribute meaningfully to society and with road safety being such a critical issue during this season, we are committed to working with the NRSA to raise awareness and save lives.”

The Head of Corporate Affairs at the NRSA, Simbiat Wiredu expressed optimism about the initiative, saying, “We commend Rock City Hotel for joining us in this noble cause. By working together, we can ensure that every Ghanaian enjoys the season without the tragedy of road accidents.”

Statistics from the NRSA show that December is one of the deadliest months on Ghana’s roads. The increased movement of goods and people, coupled with festive celebrations, often leads to accidents caused by overspeeding, drink-driving, and fatigue.

Last year, the nation recorded hundreds of road accidents in December alone, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries. This campaign aims to change that narrative by encouraging a culture of responsibility and vigilance among road users.

As Ghanaians gear up for the festive season, this collaboration reminds everyone of the importance of road safety.

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise caution, ensuring that the season remains a time of joy, not sorrow.
