The Rotational Nurses and Midwifery Association (RNMA) has threatened to embark on a strike action if the Ministry of Health fails to release outstanding allowances owed them.
According to RNMA, allowances for the July batch of rotational nurses and midwives amounting to over GH₵12,000 are still left to be paid adding that despite several letters sent to the Ministry of Health since September 2023, a response is yet to reach them.
In a statement, the leadership of the association noted that the government’s inaction to settle outstanding allowances has left members in a difficult situation.
“We are health workers who advise people on the need to eat nutritious meals but are doing the opposite as a result of the hardship we are facing”.
According to them, the ministry of health has two weeks to address their concerns noting that failure to do so will see them lay down their tools.
“We are giving the Ministry of Health a two-week ultimatum to positively respond to us by engaging the appropriate authorities to release our financial clearance for us to be paid”, the association said.
Despite pouring out their frustrations, leadership has however advised members to remain calm as they seek better options to resolve the problem.
