Richard Nana Brown, a 35-year-old sales representative of Jay Kay Industries and Investment Company Limited, has been granted bail by the Dansoman Circuit Court after being charged with allegedly stealing GH¢211,367.00 in company funds to support his gambling and betting activities.
The court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul Baasit, granted bail in the sum of GH¢220,000, with two sureties—one of whom must provide a valid property title deed.
As part of the bail conditions, Brown is also required to deposit his Ghana Card with the court registry and report to the police once a week.
Brown pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing, contrary to Section 124(1) of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, the alleged theft came to light during an internal audit carried out by the company on July 22, 2025.
The complainant, Rohit Kumar—an Indian national and Head of Sales at Jay Kay Industries—detected financial discrepancies in sales reports, prompting further internal checks.
Investigations revealed that the accused, who was stationed at the company’s North Industrial Area branch in Accra, had allegedly diverted company funds over a period of time. When confronted by company management, Brown reportedly confessed to the offence and explained that the stolen funds had been spent on online betting and other personal expenses.
This confession, the prosecution noted, was also captured in a caution statement given to the police during the investigation. However, despite these admissions, Brown denied the allegations in court and intends to contest the charge at trial.
The presiding judge ordered the prosecution to file all necessary disclosures and witness statements in advance of the Case Management Conference (CMC), which is expected to commence on August 27, 2025.
Meanwhile, investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
