The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has announced the immediate termination of contracts for all caterers operating under the programme across the country.
This sweeping directive, issued in an official statement dated May 2, 2025, has sent shockwaves through the caterers’ community just days before the start of the third academic term.
“Please be informed that contracts of all caterers of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) nationwide have been terminated with immediate effect. Accordingly, no existing caterer on the programme should cook for the third term of the 2024/2025 academic year,” the statement read.
The GSFP Secretariat assured affected caterers that outstanding arrears for meals served during the second term would be honoured in due course, although no specific timelines were provided.
“All outstanding arrears for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic year will be paid in due course,” the statement said.
The move, according to the Secretariat, forms part of a broader restructuring of the programme aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency. As such, the GSFP plans to introduce new recruitment guidelines for fresh caterer engagement in the coming weeks.
“The GSFP Secretariat, as part of its ongoing restructuring exercise, will soon announce the modalities for the recruitment of new caterers for the programme,” it added.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme is one of the government’s flagship social protection initiatives, intended to improve school enrolment, retention, and nutritional outcomes by providing free daily meals to pupils in public basic schools.
