The leadership of the Ghana Adventist Health Services of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, pledging to partner with the government to complete several Agenda 111 projects across the country.
During the engagement, the SDA delegation, led by Dr James Antwi, presented a proposal targeting four critical areas: trauma care, holistic wellness, oncology and cancer treatment, alongside rehabilitation and health services. The initiative aims to position the church as a key strategic partner in boosting healthcare delivery, particularly within underserved communities.
Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Akandoh stressed that the government cannot single-handedly meet the country’s growing healthcare demands. He called on faith-based organisations, including the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), alongside private sector players, to step in and support the completion and operationalisation of the Agenda 111 facilities.

Commending the SDA Church for its historic contribution to healthcare in deprived areas, the Minister clarified that such collaborations do not involve financial contributions to the government, but rather direct support toward completing specific infrastructure projects. He assured potential investors that the ministry will provide all necessary guidance to guarantee successful delivery.
Hon. Akandoh also reiterated the ministry’s firm stance on medical postings, insisting that doctors must accept postings to designated areas to ensure equitable healthcare access nationwide.
Outlining broader infrastructure and reform plans, the Minister revealed that the government intends to construct six new regional hospitals in the newly created regions. Three of these projects are earmarked for construction this year, with the remaining three scheduled for 2027. Furthermore, two cardiology centres are currently under construction in Tamale and at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, complementing the recently commissioned cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Hon. Akandoh concluded by highlighting three major policy interventions—the Free Primary Healthcare initiative, the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund—designed to accelerate the nation’s journey towards achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030.
