Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation Ghana (MoCD) in collaboration with the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) and the Ghana Investment Fund For Electronic Communications GIFEC has started the second batch of the Girls-In-ICT programme under the third Phase with the aim of training 333 lower upper primary and Junior High Schools girls in Information Communication Technology (ICTs).
The programme also seeks to motivate, encourage as well as whip up their interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The training modules include; Introduction to Computer Programming, Cyber Security, Animation development, Game development, Coding, Scratch, Website design.
After the one-week training, the beneficiaries would be assessed through an inter-district competition where the outstanding girls would be selected.
The second batch of girls were selected from 11 districts which are – Achiase; Asene Manso Akroso; Birim North; Akyemansa; Dekyembour; Birim Central; Kwabibrem; West Akim; Ayensuano; Upper West Akyem and Birim South , all the the Eastern Region.
So far, the programme has trained 100 Teachers (2nd – 6th Oct. 2023), while a total number of 660 girls have benefited from 20 districts.
The First batch took place from 9th – 14th Oct. 2023 and trained a total number 327 girls selected from 9 districts.
The second batch which started from (16th – 21st Oct. 2023) is currently training 333 girls in 11 districts on the theme, “Girls-In-ICT; Digital Skills For Life”.
The last batch of the programme is scheduled to train 340 girls in 13 districts which will bring the total number to 1000 girls from all the 33 districts in the Eastern Region.
