Wisdom Ahli, the second suspect in the case of vehicle vandalism at Ghana’s Parliament House, has been granted bail by the Circuit Court in Accra.
Presided over by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, the court admitted Ahli to bail in the sum of GHC 50,000 with two sureties, following a formal bail application by his lawyer.
The case has been adjourned to February 27, 2025.
Ahli’s alleged accomplice, Kofi Okyere Sorkpa, had earlier pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage to five vehicles at Parliament’s car park on December 20, 2024.
The same court sentenced him to five years in prison, along with an additional three-year sentence for conspiracy, both to run concurrently.
Since his arrest, Ahli had been in lawful custody due to what the police described as a defective charge sheet, which required amendments.
Incident Details
According to Superintendent of Police Augustine Yirenkyi, Sorkpa and Ahli, both preachers from Kasoa, sneaked into the Parliament House car park on December 18, 2024, at around 11:00 AM.
Sorkpa, who carried a handbag containing an earth chisel, allegedly used the tool to smash the windscreens of five vehicles, including two Toyota Land Cruisers, two Toyota Camry saloon cars, and a Toyota RAV4.
With Ahli now out on bail, the case continues as investigations proceed into his alleged role in the vandalism.
