The Kaneshie District Court presided over by Her Honour Awurama Damoah Darkwah has remanded two men into custody over the alleged murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on July 9, 2025, at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya.

The case, which has shocked the nation and drawn widespread public attention, is now entering a new phase with the arrest of a second suspect.

The New Arrest

On Friday, August 22, 2025, Thomas Zigah, also known as Nii Jaase, appeared before the court following his arrest earlier in the week.

His arraignment marked a major development in ongoing investigations, as prosecutors believe he played a role in Amoah’s killing.

Zigah joins the first accused, Bright Aweh, who was initially remanded on August 8. Aweh is believed to have been the last person to contact the deceased before his disappearance on July 3, 2025.

Both men are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder, contrary to the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Their pleas have not yet been taken.

Defence and Prosecution Clash Over Medical Treatment

In court, Zigah’s lawyer, Godwin Aboagye, holding brief for Theophilus Donkor, requested that his client be transferred from the Police Hospital to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, arguing that the police facility could suppress vital medical evidence and that Zigah’s condition required advanced care.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Apewah Achana, opposed the application, insisting that the Police Hospital was capable of handling the treatment and had already attended to Zigah twice.

The court upheld the prosecution’s position and dismissed the defence request, ruling that Zigah would remain under police medical supervision.

Tensions in Court and Outside

The proceedings were marked by heightened emotions. Family members of the late officer, who packed the courtroom, expressed outrage at the defence submissions.

Some relatives hurled insults and attempted to confront Zigah’s lawyer, forcing police officers to intervene and escort him out of the premises.

Outside the courtroom, the grieving family warned that they would resist any attempts to shield the suspects from justice.

“We will not sit back and watch the system protect those who killed our brother,” one in-law of the deceased told reporters, accusing the suspects of having connections that could influence the case.

The Victim and Timeline of Events

Stephen King Amoah, 38, was reported missing on July 3, 2025, after leaving his home at Ashongman Estate to meet a friend. Five days later, on July 9, his partially burnt body was discovered at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya, sparking an intensive manhunt by the police.

Investigators quickly zeroed in on Bright Aweh, a close associate believed to have been in contact with Amoah shortly before his disappearance.

His arrest and subsequent remand earlier this month opened the door for deeper investigations, which eventually led to the capture of Zigah.

Police sources have hinted that at least one other suspect remains at large, with efforts underway to apprehend him.

The Kaneshie District Court has adjourned the case to September 4, 2025, to allow for further investigations.
