The Accra Regional Police Command, in conjunction with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has apprehended individuals suspected of being part of a notorious highway robbery syndicate.

These suspects are believed to be responsible for a series of violent robberies in various parts of the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions. On November 29, 2025, the suspects allegedly attacked a residence in Peduase, Aburi, and robbed the occupants of mobile phones, jewelry, and an undisclosed amount of cash while armed with firearms.

Personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, collaborating with the Accra Regional Police, arrested suspect Kofi Ishmael, 30 years old, on January 6, 2026, at Avenor, Accra, following intelligence-led investigations.

During questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement in the robbery and identified Kwame Bediako, also known as Star Boy, as the gang’s ringleader.

Acting on the information obtained, the police arrested Kwame Bediako at Ablekuma Agape and retrieved a pump-action gun concealed within the fence wall, along with four BB cartridges.

The suspect admitted his involvement in several robbery cases.

According to the Police, further investigations revealed the suspects’ involvement in multiple highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and the Juaso Kumasi stretch.

The suspects disclosed that they were preparing for another robbery at the time of their arrest. Police investigations have resulted in the arrest and detention of seven suspects, including one currently receiving medical attention.

The suspects in custody are: Salia Mohammed, alias Kwaku Nuah, 27 years old; Kofi Ishmael, alias Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, 32 years old; Kwame Bediako, alias Star Boy or Nkokorpor, the gang’s ringleader; Kwadwo Kalovi, alias Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, alias Mogambo, 39 years old; Kwasi Akambuley, alias Kwasi Fresh, 27 years old; and Kwame Bonsu, alias Killer Ntua.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accomplices at large. Meanwhile, the Police have linked the suspects to previous robbery cases, including attacks on market women, motorists, and a fatal robbery incident resulting in a driver’s death.

Some suspects are reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases pending before the court.

Exhibits retrieved include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activities and urges anyone with information that may assist ongoing investigations to report to the nearest police station.
