The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 60-year-old man accused of assaulting his 16-year-old son in an incident at North Legon that has triggered public concern.

According to Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, the suspect was arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command following reports of the alleged abuse.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on May 3, 2026, after the teenager reportedly went to play football with friends despite repeated warnings from his father.

Police identified the suspect as Eric Mante and said he allegedly confronted the boy upon his return home in anger over his behaviour.

Investigators say the suspect tied the teenager to a quad motorbike and drove off, dragging him along a road near the Adonai Church area. The victim reportedly fell and sustained multiple injuries while being dragged for several minutes.

Residents in the area reportedly heard the boy’s cries and intervened, stopping the incident before alerting the police.

The victim was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment, while the suspect was arrested shortly afterwards.

According to police, the suspect admitted during questioning that he acted out of anger after repeatedly cautioning his son against such activities.

The Ghana Police Service condemned the incident, describing it as a serious act of child abuse, and urged parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent methods when disciplining children.

Police also encouraged members of the public to promptly report cases of abuse to law enforcement agencies to ensure swift intervention and protection for victims.
