Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has pledged $100,000 to the Black Stars Fund, which will help fans travel to the United States, Canada, and Mexico to support the team at this year’s World Cup.

Ghana, drawn in Group L alongside England, Panama, and Croatia, held a fundraising event ahead of the tournament, headlined by President John Mahama.

The event was also attended by  Sports Minister Kofi Adams, GFA President Kurt Okraku, and other prominent sports figures.

Like Shatta Wale, fellow musician Stonebwoy contributed $81,000 to the Fund.

“With companies and everybody supporting including the man of the land, His Excellency [John Mahama] I just want to say from my team to the Black Stars and the whole organisation, we are donating $100,000” Shatta Wale said in his speech.

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is an avid fan of Shatta Wale and the two shared a warm embrace at a recent event. Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has stated that Shatta Wale is his favourite Ghanaian musician.
