A manager at a South African shopping has come under fire after attempting to deny admission to a shopper dressed in traditional Ndebele attire.

A video circulating on social media shows Ndebele activist and author Thando Mahlangu being told to leave the premises by the manager who invoked the mall’s right of admission.

“Let’s cut the long story short, we’ve got the right of admission. I don’t condone this in my mall,” the manager at Boulders Shopping Centre in Johannesburg is heard saying.

“It is not decent,” he added.

Saddest reality in Africa, I was subjected to inside the @Clicks_SA store at The Boulders Shopping Center. By the center manager, who said it was his shopping complex. I was told that I'm wearing inappropriate I must go & Omega risk solutions harassed me #NdebeleTwitter pic.twitter.com/klzmTQspJO

The Ndebele people live in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa.

Pharmacy chain Clicks, in whose store the incident happened, said it “will be putting in a formal complaint” with the mall.

It said the customer was allowed to continue shopping.

“We are extremely embarrassed by the centre manager’s behaviour,” it said in a tweet.
