Police in the Sissala East Municipality are searching for two unidentified masked gunmen who allegedly shot and killed a Fulbe herdsman in a suspected targeted attack near Wellembelle.
ASP Adusei Poku, Sissala East Police Commander, said in an interview that the incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, March 25, 2026.
According to a resident’s report, the victim, identified as Alidu Sallam, was shot without provocation. Police officers from Wellembelle quickly responded, locating the body about 10 kilometres from the town. The victim, believed to be in his early 30s, was found lying in a hut with a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh.
Preliminary investigations at the scene uncovered a BB cartridge. Bloodstain patterns indicated that the armed attackers, riding an unregistered black Aloba Apsonic motorbike, had moved the victim to the back of the hut before shooting him and fleeing the area.
The body was taken to the Wellembelle Polyclinic, where Dr. Luke Binnebamile Kyengbe pronounced him dead, and later released to the family for burial according to Islamic customs.
Police continue efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects and are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.
