A routine afternoon was shattered by gunfire when police officers responding to a distress call walked into a volatile scene involving a heavily armed group attacking workers.
At about 12:50 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, officers and personnel swiftly moved to the location after receiving emergency information. On arrival, the police encountered a large group of men, estimated at about 50, who were openly firing at workers at the site.
The officers immediately took cover and returned fire, forcing the assailants to retreat. A hot pursuit ensued as the armed men fled into a nearby bush in an apparent attempt to escape arrest.
The police operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects during the chase. A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of ammunition, one Luger T9 pistol with five rounds, and a Regard MC pistol with thirteen rounds of ammunition.
In addition to the firearms, four motorbikes believed to have been used by the suspects were intercepted at the scene.
The arrested suspects, together with the retrieved firearms, ammunition, and motorbikes, were transported to the Accra Regional Police Headquarters, where they are currently in custody as investigations continue into the violent attack and the activities of the larger group that escaped into the bush.
