Parliament has approved six additional ministerial nominees submitted by President John Dramani Mahama, moving his administration closer to finalizing a fully constituted cabinet.
The approval came after a rigorous vetting process by the Appointments Committee and an extensive debate on the parliamentary floor on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The session, presided over by the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, witnessed hours of deliberation before a consensus was reached.
Both the majority and minority caucuses expressed confidence in the nominees’ qualifications and readiness to lead their respective ministries.
The newly confirmed ministers are as follows:
- Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP for Ketu South): Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts
- Emelia Arthur (MP for Shama): Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development
- George Opare Addo (NDC National Youth Organiser): Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment
- Ahmed Ibrahim (MP for Banda): Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs
- Agnes Naa Momo Lartey (MP for Krowor): Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection
- Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP for Techiman North): Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness
This marks the third and fourth batches of ministerial nominees to receive parliamentary approval, following the swearing-in of ministers from the initial batches earlier this week.
During the debate, lawmakers highlighted the appointees’ track records, expertise, and dedication to national development.
The approval reinforces President Mahama’s efforts to assemble a competent ministerial team capable of addressing pressing socio-economic challenges.
