Renowned social commentator and educationist, Mr. Abuu Banda, popularly known as Shugar, has urged members of the Vetting Committee of Ghana’s 9th Parliament to prioritize national interest over partisan considerations when questioning ministerial appointees.
Speaking on Gye Nyame FM, Mr. Banda emphasized the importance of vetting nominees based on their qualifications and the responsibilities of their respective offices rather than political affiliations or personal interests.
According to Mr. Banda, President John Dramani Mahama is keen on accelerating development through key ministries such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Information.
However, he noted that delays in the vetting process often caused by questions unrelated to governance hinder the swift execution of government policies.
“The committee, in some cases, holds nominees for extended periods with questions of personal interest that do not serve the national agenda. This only wastes time, while the progress of the country depends on these ministries functioning efficiently,” he stated.
He, therefore, called on committee members to ensure a fair and professional vetting process, allowing appointees to assume office and contribute to national development without unnecessary delays.
