The Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled what he describes as a bold solution to the long-standing issues surrounding premix fuel for fisherfolks.
Speaking during his campaign tour in Saltpond, Mfantseman constituency, Dr. Bawumia noted that previous efforts, including the installation of automated dispensing machines at landing beaches, have not fully resolved the problems.
He proposed the introduction of solar-powered outboard motors as a permanent solution, emphasizing the need to move away from reliance on premix fuel.
“We need a permanent solution because every time we move, we don’t address the problem fully,” he stated.
He announced plans to pilot the solar-powered outboard motors before the end of the year, assuring fishermen that they would no longer need to purchase premix fuel.
“The sun will charge their batteries, allowing them to go out to sea without the worry of fuel shortages,” he explained.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that discussions with the fishing community would begin soon to ensure a smooth transition to this new system.
His announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd, including many from the fishing community in Saltpond and neighbouring areas.
