They were arrested on August 7, 2025, after a snap check operation at Ablekuma Borkorborkor in Accra led to the foiling of the robbery.

Police reports indicate that at about 12:30 a.m. on the day of the arrest, officers manning the checkpoint stopped a green pickup truck with three men sitting in its open bucket.

Two of the men suddenly jumped down and began shouting for help, while the third attempted to restrain them. The victims told officers they were tanker drivers from Tema who had been attacked the previous night near Nsawam by armed men who hijacked their tanker, registered GT 2493–20.

According to the victims, the assailants handcuffed them and forced them into the pickup. During the police intervention, the driver of the pickup sped off, leaving one passenger behind, who was apprehended after a short pursuit.

Based on intelligence, the Kibi Divisional Police later arrested six additional suspects at Asikwa Junction, near Bunso.

At the location, officers recovered the stolen tanker, another fuel tanker with registration GN 804–13, a pumping machine suspected to have been used to transfer the stolen fuel, and a VW Golf car, registered GW 5185–Z, believed to be linked to the suspects.
