President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed profound sorrow following the devastating fire that swept through Kantamanto market in Accra on January 2, 2025, leaving many traders in financial ruin.

The fire destroyed goods and investments worth thousands of cedis, severely impacting the livelihoods of hardworking traders.

Addressing the nation, the President extended his heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the incident.

“I’m deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market yesterday that has left many traders and their livelihoods in ruins,” he said.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments.”

The President assured the victims that the government stands with them in this challenging time.

He further pledged that relevant agencies would collaborate to ascertain the cause of the fire and provide necessary support to affected traders.

“Government stands with you and would work with relevant agencies to ascertain the cause of the fire and provide the needed support,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo also called on the nation to unite in compassion and solidarity to support those who have suffered losses.

“As a nation, united in compassion and solidarity, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time,” he stated.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire service personnel have been working tirelessly to determine the origin of the blaze and prevent future occurrences.

Meanwhile, affected traders have called for swift action to address their losses and prevent similar disasters.
