South African woman arrested for allegedly operating private prison in her home

A 54-year-old South African woman has been arrested for allegedly running a private prison inside her home where she detained men who drank at her beer bar.

According to police reports, the woman converted part of her house into a makeshift detention centre.

She is said to have reportedly locked up men who either failed to pay their bills or became violent after consuming alcohol.

Authorities revealed that since December 2, 2025, the suspect had allegedly detained at least 36 men.

She has since been arrested assisting in investigations.
