The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has urged the incoming government to prioritize the country’s spare parts sector as a key driver for economic recovery.
According to Mr. Takyi Addo, the Public Relations Officer for the association, practical steps must be taken to strengthen the sector, which has the potential to significantly contribute to the nation’s economic survival.
In an interview, Mr. Addo emphasized the importance of the spare parts industry in revitalizing the economy, particularly in addressing unemployment and improving living standards.
He called for urgent government action to remove what he described as “draconian taxes” within the first 120 days of the new administration, including levies such as the emissions levy, e-levy, COVID levy, and the 10% tax on betting winnings.
Mr. Addo also expressed concern over the 22 levies and fees imposed on the clearing of goods at the ports, which he said hinder businesses and increase operational costs.
He urged the government to take a more strategic approach to supporting the spare parts sector, which he believes holds significant potential for creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
Ghana’s spare parts business, he said, must be treated with the seriousness it deserves to unlock its full potential and contribute to the country’s development.
