The Coordinating Director of the Public Affairs Sub-Division of the Parliament of Ghana, Ms. Kate Addo, has reiterated that the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has always had the Upper West Region and Ghana at heart.

Ms. Addo made this known in an exclusive interview on Radio Mak in Wa, in the Upper West Region, ahead of the official launch of the SheaPark Resource and Industrial Hub, scheduled for Saturday, 31st January 2026.

According to her, the Speaker, having observed the global importance of industrial hubs that add value to local resources, decided that such a project should be sited in his home region, particularly due to the abundance of shea nuts, a key raw material for shea butter production.

She explained that Rt. Hon. Bagbin further engaged His Excellency the President to expand the initiative into a nationwide project, aimed at maximizing its economic impact across the country.

Ms. Addo emphasized that women empowerment remains one of the Speaker’s key priorities. Given that women dominate the shea butter industry, the SheaPark project is expected to create economic freedom, improve livelihoods, and enhance income generation for women in the Upper West Region and Ghana as a whole.

She disclosed that the project is projected to directly employ over 7000 women, making it one of the largest women-centered industrial initiatives in the country.

Ms. Addo was accompanied during the interview by the Director, Media Relations David Sebastian Damoah, Director of Public Engagement, Mrs. Efia Tenge, Lt. Colonel Samuel Ofosu, Marshal to Parliament,Alhaji Baaba Inusah, Asistant Deputy Clerk, Prof. Kwame Addo, Project Coordinator; and members of the Speaker’s Communications Team.

The SheaPark Resource and Industrial Hub is expected to significantly boost local industrialization, create jobs, and position Ghana as a major player in the global shea value chain.
