The Chief of Mpehuasem in the Ga West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region, Nana Bram Okai II, has advised Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to speed up appointments of some key positions in his government to help run government business.
According to Nana Bram who also doubles as former Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have become apathetic because they don’t see things going on such as the appointments of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and several other key position in government.
Speaking exclusively with the myrepubliconline.com, the chief said as at July 23, 2021, no single board of state institution have been constituted and Chief Executives Officers (CEOs) of many state institutions have also not been appointed, this he said is having a towing effect on the rank and file of the great elephant party.
“The ordinary supporters of the NPP at the grassroot have stated asking questions about what is really happening in the area of governance because 2024 is just around the corner,” Nana Bram stated.
He added that the rank and file of the party needs to know what is happening at the various departments, agencies and authorities because what it is now seems nothing is going on and this have angered the supporters.
“As I speak to you, major governments projects and programmes have come to a halt and we don’t hear about the day today running of government institutions. Many senior citizens and loyal NPP members in the party are really worried,” he revealed.
According to him, many party loyalists at the grassroot are disappointed in the activities of the government and if care is not taken, many of their supporters will show apathy in 2024 general elections.
“Some party supporters we meet on the street every day and those who comes to us are complaining of prices of goods and commodities being doubled in these few months after elections, a situation they attributed to the non-performance of the government.”
Nana Bram said the various councils of public universities in the country are yet to be constituted, a typical example he cited is the University of Ghana case which by July 31, 2021, both the vice chancellor and the registrar would be exiting and with no council in place to appoint their replacement.
He said funny enough when Nana Akufo-Addo came to power in 2017, he was praised of moving on a fast paste in his appointments but now it looks like he is moving in a slow coach and that has angered the people.
Nana Bram therefore called on the President to facilitate the appointments of the MMDCEs, CEOs, boards of state institutions and governing councils of public universities to lessen the burden on ministers and other governments top appointees.
