The Chief of Tetre-Nkwanta in the Assin North District of the Central Region, Nana Kwaku Opare II, has tragically died after being struck by a speeding motorbike at Assin Praso on the Cape Coast–Kumasi Highway.

The 70-year-old chief reportedly lost his life in the accident, which occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday within the Praso township.

Eyewitnesses told Rich FM News that the deceased, who resided at Assin Praso, had just returned from a funeral in his hometown, Tetre-Nkwanta, and was heading home with some of his sub-chiefs.

While attempting to cross the highway to the other side of the road, a speeding motorbike with no headlight reportedly knocked him down killing him instantly.

The impact was severe and left the chief with multiple fractures to his arms and legs and other critical injuries.

Police were called to the scene, and with the assistance of bystanders, the injured chief was rushed to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The motor rider, identified as 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist Ebenezer Tetteh, sustained various degrees of injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

Officers from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) have since cleared the scene to ensure the free flow of traffic, while investigations into the incident continue.
