President John Dramani Mahama has, during the swearing in of new envoys, stressed the urgent need to curb high expenditure on rented diplomatic properties, revealing that Ghana spends over $15 million annually on renting foreign missions.
During the ceremony, held on Thursday, 4th September 2025, at the Jubilee House in Accra, the President explained that a transaction advisor has already been engaged to guide the acquisition of properties to be fully owned by the state, a move aimed at ensuring fiscal prudence and long-term sustainability.
“Integrity must be your watchword. The Public Financial Management Act and all relevant regulations must guide your stewardship of public resources that are put in your care,” Mahama said, urging the envoys to guard the public purse with diligence.
He added, “This is not a judicious use of taxpayers’ resources, and the reset agenda requires an immediate reversal of this trend. And that is why the Cabinet has promptly approved the STRIDE initiative.”
