The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 inaugurated an eight member Ministerial Advisory Board at the conference room of the Ministry.
Inaugurating the Board, the Hon Minister indicated that members of the Board were carefully chosen due to the recognition of their rich experiences both in private and public spheres which is relevant to the development of the critical mass of the society being the youth of the country.
He noted that the purpose of setting up the Board were in two folds and was extremely confident that members will live up to the expectation of their mandate.
First of all it is stipulated in the Civil service Act, 1993 (PNDCL327) to establish a Ministerial Advisory Board to help promote constant interaction between the Ministry and users of its services and secondly to advise the sector Minister on adjustments in policy direction, planning, objectives and operational strategies.
The Minister stated that the immediate strategy is to use sports as a vehicle to create jobs for the teeming masses and reiterated his advocacy for the revival of the inter schools and colleges sports competitions to help unearth and develop talents of the youth in the society.
He used the opportunity to enumerate the various policies and programs the Ministry has been embarking upon which provides an impetus for the development of the youth as well as sports. Notable among the activities coordinated by the Ministry is the facilitation of team Ghana to participate in the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
He stressed that team Ghana is anticipated not only to participate in the Games but also to win medals at the global event by focusing on thier strengths and to bring home 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
He further noted that Ghana will be hosting this year’s African YouthConneckt summit in October and ready to assemble 2,000 youth from the continent both physically and virtually to share ideas and network which will in turn sharpen their skills for problem solving and provide the avenues for employment opportunities.
In his remarks, Mr. Michael Kofi Asare Bediako, a member of the board expressed profound gratitude to the Hon Minister on behalf of members for reposing confidence in them and assured to put in their best efforts for the good vision of the Minister to be greatly achieved.
Members of the Board include Hon Mustapha Ussif, Chairman, Hon Evans Opoku Bobie, Deputy Minister, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Chief Director, Mr. Michael Kofi Asare Bediako, Ministry of Finance, Dr. Baah Nuako, GNPC, Mr. Ntow Ayeh, Ministry of Education, Seidu S. Nasigri, Legal Relief Trust, and Musah Yamba Issahaku, traditionalist.
