The 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards Gala lit up the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, January 25, 2025, as the country’s most outstanding sports personalities in 2024 were celebrated.

As Ghana’s longest-running sports awards ceremony, the SWAG Awards recognised excellence across diverse disciplines, highlighting the achievements of athletes, teams, and administrators who brought honour to the nation.

The night’s top honours went to Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah, who clinched the Sports Personality of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year awards for her stellar performances in athletics. Edwin Gadayi was named Male Athlete of the Year, while Abdul Aziz Issah, a rising star with Barcelona B, claimed both the Prospect of the Year and Male Footballer of the Year titles.

In football, Jonathan Sowah of Medeama SC and Comfort Yeboah of Ampem Darkoa Ladies were crowned Home-based Footballer of the Year (Male) and Home-based Footballer of the Year (Female), respectively. Foreign-based female footballer Thelma Baffoe Atuah also took home top honours.

Team accolades were also in focus, with the Ghana Athletics Relay Team earning National Team of the Year, while FC Samartex was named Club of the Year. Royal Ladies Hockey Club won the Female Club of the Year award.

The ceremony also honoured administrators and journalists for their contributions to sports development. Bawah Fuseini, Secretary General of Ghana Athletics, was named Administrator of the Year, while Bright Kankam Boadu received the SWAG Journalist of the Year award.

This year’s SWAG President’s Award went to James Kwasi Appiah, while the late Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah was posthumously honoured for his contributions to sports development in Ghana.

The event highlighted not just the success of individuals but also the collective progress of Ghanaian sports on the international stage.
