The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has recognized nine self-employed individuals for their exemplary contributions to the Scheme during its 2024 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
The awards ceremony, held at the SSNIT Pension House in Accra, highlighted the achievements of contributors under the Self-Employed Enrolment Drive (SEED) initiative.
The awardees were selected from thousands of active self-employed contributors and grouped into three categories:
- Top Model SEED Contributors: Individuals with the longest streak of prompt payments.
- Exceptional SEED Contributors: Those with the highest contribution payments in 2024.
- Rising Star SEED Contributors: Contributors who have maintained a perfect record since joining the scheme in 2023.
A total of three recipients were chosen in each category, bringing the number of awardees to nine.
Speaking at the event, SSNIT’s Director-General, Mr. Kofi Osafo-Maafo, praised the awardees for their dedication and urged them to maintain their commitment to the Scheme. “As the Trust recognises your contributions to the Scheme towards your retirement journey, we also wish to encourage you and all self-employed contributors to continue contributing to the Scheme and enjoy the benefits,” he said.
Mr. Osafo-Maafo noted that the contributions of the awardees have been instrumental in the success and growth of SSNIT over the years.
The awardees expressed gratitude to SSNIT for the recognition and pledged to continue their prompt contributions to the Scheme.
SEED Initiative
The SEED initiative was launched in May 2023 in Kumasi to expand pension coverage to self-employed individuals and workers in the informal sector. Since its inception, enrolment has grown from approximately 13,000 to over 121,000 members.
The initiative offers significant benefits to contributors, including Old Age Pension, Invalidity Pension, and Survivors’ Lump Sum. This substantial growth in membership underscores the value SSNIT provides to its contributors.
SSNIT’s commitment to promoting retirement security within the self-employed and informal sector continues to inspire confidence and active participation in the Scheme.
