The National Communications Authority (NCA) has cautioned the general public to desist from dealing with Starlink, a satellite-based internet connectivity company.
Launched in 2019, Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by American aerospace company SpaceX which provides coverage to over 60 countries.
Research has it that Starlink aims for a global mobile service after 2023.
In a statement released on Thursday, December 7, 2023, by the NCA, Starlink has not acquired the license to operate in Ghana.
“The attention of the National Communication Authority has been drawn to the illegal sale of Starlink equipment and its operations in Ghana. We wish to inform the general public that the NCA has neither licensed the operations of Starlink in Ghana nor type-approved any of their equipment” ” the NCA said.
The Authority further noted it is against the Electronic Communications Act 2008, Act 775 to operate a public electronic communication service or network or provide a voice telephony service without a license granted by the NCA.
It is therefore cautioning the general public to desist from the sale or use of Starlink equipment.
